What to do if you have Internet Explorer 9 on your machine
Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9 earlier this year, which included support for HTML5, Direct2D and other new hardware acceleration technologies designed to increase the speed and performance of Internet Explorer. These new technologies bring new challenges for accessibility programs like ZoomText. More specifically, these technologies will have crippling adverse effects on ZoomText’s xFont, tracking and screen reading features. Therefore, at this time we are advising ZoomText users not to install or upgrade to Internet Explorer 9, as doing so will result in a loss of ZoomText functionality within Internet Explorer, and possibly a decrease in personal productivity. We do want to assure you that we are working on overcoming these problems and will provide a solution as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, we encourage users who want to use Internet Explorer to downgrade their machines to run Internet Explorer 8. You can follow these instructions.
- Open your “Control Panel”
- Navigate to “Programs and Features”
- Click the link that says “Installed Updates”
- You’ll find Internet Explorer 9 in the list
- Highlight the entry and click “Uninstall”
- You will be asked to reboot your machine which will now be running IE8
You’ll need to stop Internet Explorer 9 from loading again via automatic updates by downloading this tool: Block Internet Explorer 9 Automatic Update
ZoomText with Firefox 4 and up: Loss of xFont
Mozilla’s latest releases of Firefox include support for HTML5, Direct2D and other new hardware acceleration technologies designed to increase the speed and performance of Firefox. These new technologies bring new challenges for accessibility programs like ZoomText. More specifically, these technologies will have adverse effects on ZoomText’s xFont technology.
