Fix for Using ZoomText 8.1 and 9.0 in Adobe Reader
When ZoomText 8.1 and ZoomText 9.0 were both

on a system, while running ZoomText 8.1,
AppReader and DocReader would fail to start when
attempting to read PDF documents opened in
Adobe Reader. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Text Cursor Tracking in Microsoft Word
ZoomText Magnifier would not track the text cursor
in Microsoft Word. This problem has been fixed.

Activation Fixes in Int'l Versions of ZoomText When activating an international version of ZoomText, a "1-0" error would occur if an erroneous space character was typed or pasted into the activation key field. This problem has been fixed..
Fix for Corrupted Web Pages in Internet Explorer When attempting to use AppReader or the SpeakIt Tool in Internet Explorer, the formatting of some web pages would become corrupted. For example, text within columns on the web page would be compressed to a narrow width. This problem has been fixed..
Fix for Screen Corruption and Loss of Typing Echo On some Windows XP systems, the user could experience random screen corruption and/or loss of typing echo in Microsoft Word. These problems were both related to a specific Windows XP GDI hotfix. These problems have been fixed..
Fix for Clipped Text in Localized Versions of ZoomText In localized versions of ZoomText (i.e. versions translated from English to other languages), clipped text existed in a few of ZoomText's dialogs. These problems have been fixed..

New Feature Enhancement Bug Fix
Support for Reading PDF Documents in Adobe Reader 7.0 ZoomText now supports reading PDF documents opened in Adobe Reader 7.0. Adobe Reader can be downloaded from www.adobe.com/reader.
Fix for Crash in Intel Video Driver (v6.14.10.3943) On systems containing the Intel v6.14.10.3943 video driver (for 82845G-82915G integrated video chipsets), after installing ZoomText 8.1 the following error would occur:
"An error in the DCM chain has been corrected, please reboot."
Upon reboot, Windows would startup in 16-color (4 bit) display mode. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for ZoomText Manual Activation Problems In international versions of ZoomText, when attempting to manually activate the software a "1-0" error would occur. This problem has been fixed..

New Feature Enhancement Bug Fix
Fix for ZoomText Activation Failures in Windows XP In Windows XP, after successfully activating ZoomText, some users were prompted to activate ZoomText again (after a few days, weeks or months). This problem was instigated by Windows XP's background defragging process.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Internet Explorer Crash on the Amazon.com Website While running ZoomText and browsing the Amazon website - www.amazon.com, Internet Explorer would occasionally crash when typing and selecting choices in Amazon web pages. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Crash When Selecting Text in Microsoft Word On some systems, when block selecting text in a Microsoft Word (2000 and later), Word would crash and generate a series of Windows Error Reporting dialogs. This problem would also occur in Microsoft Outlook, when configured to
use Microsoft Word as the email editor. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Security Warning in Microsoft Office Applications When running ZoomText, if the Microsoft Office security settings were set to
high and to not trust installed add-ins, when launching Word, Excel, Outlook
or Internet Explorer, the following warning messages would appear:
A warning message that states: "Macros in this document/workbook/webpage are disabled because the security level is high, and the macros have not been digitally signed or verified as safe."
A security warning indicating that an Ai Squared module (ah_office_com.dll) contains macros, and that its certificate has expired.
These warnings occurred because the ZoomText's digitally signed add-in module for Microsoft Office had expired. Note: This Add-In module allows ZoomText to accurately read and track within Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer. The 8.12.1 update installs a new ZoomText add-in module for Microsoft Office.

New Feature Enhancement Bug Fix
Web Page Links Now Reliably Executed on First Click When ZoomText was running, it would sometimes require two mouse clicks to execute a web page link. Links are now reliably executed by a single click.
Fix for Firewall Warning in Windows XP Service Pack 2 When running ZoomText in Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), the Windows Firewall would display a dialog with the following message:
"To help protect your computer, Windows Firewall has blocked this program from receiving unsolicited information from the Internet or a network."
This dialog no longer appears when running ZoomText.
Note: This dialog was appearing as a result of ZoomText's network discovery (a component of ZoomText's copy protection). This process is completely harmless, and at no time compromises the security of your system
or your data.
Fix for Loss of Typing Echo By Word ZoomText's typing echo by word would occasionally stop working properly (no echo or echo every other word). This problem was known to occur in Outlook Express and the Windows Notepad. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Erroneous Scrolling to Bottom of Web Page When browsing to certain web pages, ZoomText would cause the browser window to scroll to the bottom of the page. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Crash or Reboot on Multi-Monitor Systems When attempting to run ZoomText on a system configured for multiple display devices, the system would crash or reboot. ZoomText now detects these configurations and prompts you disable all secondary display devices before
you can run ZoomText.
Fix for Problem Installing ZoomText Updates On certain systems, after installing ZoomText updates, when you attempted to run ZoomText the following error would occur:
"ZoomText program components are missing. Please reinstall ZoomText from your original product CD."
This problem has been fixed.
Automatic Update Setting Now Saved in Configuration The on/off state of ZoomText's Automatic Updating feature (located in the Program Preferences dialog) was not being saved in the ZoomText configuration file. As a result, you could not disable automatic updating. This setting
is now properly saved to and restored from ZoomText configuration files.
Automatic Updating Can Now Be Disabled By Administrators Network administrators can now permanently disable ZoomText's Automatic Updating feature by adding a registry value as described below.
To permanently disable automatic updating:

Note: This feature is provided for use in computer environments where end-user installation of software updates is not allowed.
Fix for Reboot Problem on Windows 2000 Systems After installing ZoomText on a system containing Windows 2000 and an SIS 5598/6326 video card, the system could not be booted - i.e. the system would reboot before before Windows could finish loading. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Hang When Navigating Word's Document Map When ZoomText was running, Microsoft Word would sometimes hang when navigating the document map (in Outline View). This problem has been fixed.

Smoother Scrolling of ZoomText's Magnified View
ZoomText's magnified view now scrolls much more smoothly
and with no flickering of the mouse pointer. This
enhancement is particularly noticeable at higher
magnification levels and when using the Lens and Line
zoom windows.
Fix for AppReader Problems in Outlook and Outlook Express When using AppReader to read email in Outlook 2002 and
Outlook Express 6, the following problems were known
to occur:
In Outlook 2002 and Outlook Express, AppReader would
not read HTML email unless you selected 'Reply' and
launched AppReader in the Reply window.
In Outlook 2002 and Outlook Express, AppReader would
skip lines and skip around paragraphs.
In Outlook Express, AppReader would occasionally
freeze.
In Outlook Express, AppReader would repeat some
sections of text.
These problems have been fixed.
Fix for Text Cursor Tracking in Outlook 2002 In Windows XP, when using the High Contrast Black color
scheme (available in the Windows Classic Theme),ZoomText
would not track the text cursor when creating a plain
text email in Outlook 2002. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Incorrect Speaking of Tree View Information When navigating tree views in Windows Explorer and
Microsoft Outlook, ZoomText would not correctly speak
the tree level and state of expandable folders. This
problem has been fixed.
Fix for Reading Two-line Items in the Windows Start Menu In Windows XP, ZoomText would not read items in the
Windows Start menu that contained two-line titles. This
problem has been fixed.
Fix for Speaking Combo Box Items in Office 2003 In Office 2003 dialog boxes, ZoomText would not speak
when navigating up and down a list of combo box items.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Duplicate Zoom Window Frames In certain cases, a duplicate zoom window frame could
appear when using a Docked zoom window type. This problem
has been fixed.
Fix for Freeze When Running Norton Antivirus Live Update When ZoomText was active, attempts to run the Live Update
Wizard in Norton Antivirus would cause the system to
freeze. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Interference of PC-cillin internet Security When ZoomText was running, the PC-cillin user interface
would sometimes not appear when clicking the PC-cillin
icon in the system tray. This problem has been fixed.

New Feature Enhancement Bug Fix
Fix for System Freeze in HTML Email and Web Pages
When attempting to view and read HTML email and web pages
in Outlook, Outlook Express, AOL9, or IE 5.0, ZoomText
would hang (freeze) for 5 or more seconds. Attempting to
escape from this state, by clicking the mouse or pressing
keys, would perpetuate the problem and compromise system
stability. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Random System Lock Ups When on-screen updating and user input was extremely
active, ZoomText would lock up, requiring a system reboot.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for IE6 Becoming Unresponsive on Yahoo Website When navigating links and controls on the Yahoo Website,
Internet Explorer 6 would become unresponsive. This
problem has been fixed.

New Feature Enhancement Bug Fix
Expanded Support for Reading PDF Documents
ZoomText's support for reading PDF documents (in Adobe
Reader v6.01 or later) has been expanded and improved
in the following ways:
You can now use DocReader to read PDF documents.
AppReader and DocReader start faster in PDF documents.
PDF documents can now be read within Internet Explorer.
Reading is now more accurate and reliable in complex
PDF documents - i.e. documents containing multiple
columns, tables, etc.
You can now read PDF documents in all supported operating
systems - Windows XP, 2000, ME, NT 4.0 and 98.
ZoomText Now Tracks to Found Word When the Find Dialog When using Microsoft Word's Find and Replace dialog,
ZoomText would not track to the found word. This problem
has been fixed.
ZoomText Now Pauses When Reading List Items When reading a series of bulleted items (or list items),
ZoomText would read from item to item without pausing,
making it difficult to comprehend each item. ZoomText now
pauses between bulleted items.
Updates Can Now Be Installed Without Exiting ZoomText ZoomText updates can now be installed while ZoomText is
running, allowing the update dialogs to be magnified and
spoken.
Fix for Screen Corruption on Intel Graphics Controllers On systems containing an Intel 82852 or 82855 graphics
controller, the screen would become corrupted, or turn
gray or blue when running ZoomText. These problems have
been fixed.
Fix for Screen Corruption on ViaS3 graphics controller On systems containing the ViaS3 graphics controllers,
screen corruption would occur when running ZoomText.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Corrupted Display of Web Pages Some web pages were not displayed properly While ZoomText
was running. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Remote Procedure Call Errors in ZoomText Setup On some systems, when installing ZoomText 8 over an
existing installation of ZoomText Xtra v7, an "RPC error"
or "Remote Procedure Call failed" error would occur. This
would cause the Setup program to exit without completing
the installation. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for "DLL Load Failure" Error After Installing ZoomText On some systems, if ZoomText 8 was installed over
ZoomText Xtra (version 7.xx), when attempting to launch
ZoomText 8 a "DLL Load Failure" error would occur.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Registry Error on First Execution of ZoomText In Windows XP, 2000 or NT 4.0, after installing ZoomText
and restarting the system, if you logged in without
administrator privileges and attempted to start ZoomText,
the following error would occur:
"ZoomText's registry settings must be updated before
running ZoomText 8.1. To complete these updates,
please log in with administrator privileges or
contact your network administrator."
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Prompt to Reboot on First Execution of ZoomText On some systems, the first time ZoomText was run (after
installation), the following error would occur:
"You need to reboot your system before starting
ZoomText 8.1. Do you want to restart now?"
After rebooting the system the problem would not reoccur.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Installation of Unselected ViaVoice Synthesizers In the International version of ZoomText, When performing
a custom installation, the Setup program would install
the Spanish ViaVoice speech synthesizer, even when it
had not been selected for installation. This problem has
been fixed.
Fix for Update Wizard Reboot in Windows NT 4.0 In Windows NT 4.0, ZoomText's update wizard would fail
to reboot the system when selecting the Reboot button.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for AppReader Startup Failures in Adobe Reader When launching AppReader in Adobe Reader, clicking a word
to start reading would fail if the click was not precisely
over the word. These problems have been fixed.
Fix for Missing Highlight in AppReader On some web pages, when launching AppReader, AppReader's
word highlight would not appear, or disappear after using
the page down command. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Reading Last Line in HTML Email When reading HTML emails in Microsoft Outlook, AppReader
would fail to read the last line on each page if in line
not completely in view. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Scrolling Lotus Notes Documents in AppReader When reading Lotus Notes documents with AppReader,
AppReader was not scrolling the document window. This
problem has been fixed.
Fix for Reading Beyond First Line in Lotus Notes Email ZoomText's AppReader and DocReader would fail to read
beyond the first line of a Lotus Notes emails. This
problem has been fixed.
Fix for AppReader's Say Word Above and Below Commands When reading protected Microsoft Word documents with
AppReader, ZoomText's Say Word Above and Say Word Below
commands were not working properly. These commands
would cycle through the Say Word command modes -
Say Word / Spell Word / Phonetic Spell word. This problem
has been fixed.
Fix for Tracking on Italic Cursor In some word processors and text editors, ZoomText was
not tracking the text cursor when typing or navigating
through italicized text. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Cursor Tracking When Using High Contrast Black When using Windows "High Contrast Black" color scheme,
ZoomText's cursor enhancements would not appear over the
new cursor location after exiting AppReader. This problem
has been fixed.
Fix for Tracking on Web Finder's "Scroll To" Action In ZoomText's Web Finder dialog, when choosing a link
and selecting 'Scroll To', the mouse pointer would not
appear at the link location until the mouse was moved.
This problem has been fixed. Note: This problem only
occurred in ZoomText Magnifier.
Fix for Text Cursor Tracking in Terminal Emulation Programs In Attachmate InfoConnect 2001 and Attachmate myExtra,
ZoomText would not track the text cursor. ZoomText's
Cursor Detect hotkey would also fail to detect the cursor.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Tracking Folder List in Outlook 2003 In Outlook 2003, ZoomText would not track when navigating
up and down the Folder List (using the arrow keys).
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Start Menu Tracking in Windows NT 4.0 In Windows NT 4.0, when the Start menu became active,
ZoomText would jump (track) to the top item in the menu.
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Tracking Problem in Java Notepad Application In Java Notepad, when activating a menu item, ZoomText
would track to the menu, but then jump back to the text
cursor. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Tracking Alignment in ZoomText's Line Zoom Window Tracking alignment in ZoomText's Line zoom window was
always centered, regardless of the selected alignment
setting in the Navigation dialog box (Alignment tab).
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Height Problems in Line Zoom Window When using ZoomText's Line zoom window, if the "Set line
window height to cursor height" option was enabled (in
the Zoom Windows dialog), the height of the window would
resize incorrectly. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Typing Echo in Yahoo and Hotmail Clients ZoomText's typing echo did not work properly in the Yahoo
and Hotmail email clients. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Reading Combo and List Boxes in Microsoft Excel ZoomText was not reading all combo box and list box items
in Microsoft Excel dialogs. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Reading Controls in Word's Spell Check Dialog When opening and navigating the Spell Check dialog in
Microsoft Word, ZoomText was not speaking the names of
dialog controls correctly. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Speak-It Tool Repeating "Link" If the "Say Link before reading a link" option was
enabled (in the Speech > Hints dialog), when you clicked
on a multi-word link with the Speak-It tool, ZoomText
would read the name of the link, but would speak the
word "link" between each word in the link name. This
problem has been fixed.
Fix for Redundant Freeze Window Error Messages ZoomText's Freeze window can only be used in Full zoom
mode. When Full zoom is not active, repeated attempts
to create a Freeze window would generate redundant
instances of the following error message:
"Freeze window works only in Full Zoom Mode"
This action will now result in a single instance of the
error message.
Fix for Error Opening PDF Documents in Internet Explorer When opening PDF documents from a web page, sometimes the
document would fail to open and the following Internet
Explorer error message would appear:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs
to close."
This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Conflicts with JAWS in Windows 98 and Millennium In Windows 98 and Millennium, JAWS would stop reading
menus and other application controls when ZoomText was
running. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Incorrect Fonts in ZoomText Dialogs (Japanese) In the Japanese version of ZoomText, after updating from
v8.10.0 to 8.10.1, fonts displayed in ZoomText dialogs
did not appear properly. This problem has been fixed.
Fix for Web Finder button in Japanese Windows 98 When running ZoomText in a Japanese version of Windows,
the 'Web' button on ZoomText's Magnifier toolbar would
occasionally become disabled (grayed out) even though
Internet Explorer was displaying a valid web page for
the Web Finder to process. This problem has been fixed.

video corruption could occur when running ZoomText.

Fix for Broken Hotkeys in German Version of ZoomText In the German localization of ZoomText 8.1, the Desktop
Finder and Web Finder hotkeys did not work. This problem
has been fixed.
Fix for Norton Antivirus 2004 Live Update Crash In Windows 98 and ME, if ZoomText 8.1 was active and
Symantec's Norton Antivirus 2004 launched a live update,
system errors followed by a crash would occur. This
problem has been fixed.
Fix for Redundant Freeze Window warning messages ZoomText's Freeze window can only be created or activated
When in Full zoom mode. When not in Full zoom mode,
attempting to create or activate the Freeze window generates
an error message. Repeated attempts to create or activate
the Freeze window was generating redundant instances of the
error message. This problem has been fixed.
