New “High Contrast” Podcast Hits the Air Waves

After a successful first pilot episode of the new “High Contrast” podcast, episode two is now available on the Serotalk web site or could also be heard using the iBlink Radio App for the Android or iDevice.  This time around, Rodney Edgar, Jeremy Curry, Joe Steinkamp, and I shared our thoughts about the Google self-driving car which recently stirred up a lot of buzz in the news.  It was interesting to compare the differing perspectives of Rodney and Joe, who never had a driver’s license, with Jeremy’s and mine – we both experienced the freedom of the road but gave up our respective car keys when the time was right.

The other topic we tackled was social networking which spun off into all sorts of related tangents.  This makes sense because when you’re visually impaired, you can’t talk about things such as Facebook and Twitter without considering the apps you use, the device you use, the environment, and even the screen size.  I have to say it’s refreshing to talk about these issues without having to explain a lot.  And I was amazed at how many different approaches four people who are visually impaired can take.  I may steal some of their ideas, and you can too – give it a listen and then chime in yourself by sharing your own thoughts and solutions with us.

What had the most resonance for me in Episode 2 was your comment about how your eyes strain using a magnification level of 7X and how you are considering learning the keyboard commands to use the speech functions of Zoomtext. This is my situation as well. While it is useful to hear some general techology issues, it is this type of personal reference that is often unmentioned in podcasts for the visually impaired.

    Michelle,
Thanks for the feedback, it’s very helpful! I use mouse echo and AppReader but need to become less mouse dependent.
