Junior Blind of America’s Camp Bloomfield provides children and youth who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled, with a natural and safe environment to develop self-esteem, build independence and fully experience the joys of childhood. Imagine spending your childhood in a society where your choices for activities are limited because others underestimate your capabilities. Unfortunately for most children with disabilities, this is reality. That’s where places like Camp Bloomfield are hoping to change all that.
This amazing camp has been in operation for over 50 years, helping children of all ages find unconditional acceptance and encouragement. It’s a place where their whole world is opened to new experiences like archery, rock wall climbing, swimming and horseback riding. More importantly, campers can meet other kids just like them who are coping with the same kinds of challenges they face every day. They offer several week-long camps at their 40-acre campground in the Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu – they even host camping experiences for adults!
Camp Bloomfield serves hundreds of campers free of charge each summer and is funded through the generosity of others. For more information about the specific camp offerings this summer, please head over to the Junior Blind of America website.
