To all users who run Spyware Doctor software,

We have discovered a problem with Spyware Doctor 3.2 detecting ZoomText as spyware with its \"OnGuard Protection.\" If you answer Yes when prompted to activate this service, ZoomText will no longer be able to be launched on the machine. Instead, the splash screen and user interface will flash on the screen quickly and immediately close. This applies to both ZoomText 8.x and 9.0.

Here are our proposed solutions:

SOLUTION 1

Solution 2, below, will allow ZoomText to run with SpyWare Doctor 3.2 installed and running. Howver, the ZoomText hotkeys will not work in Internet Explorer as long as SpyWare Doctor 3.2 is installed on the PC. So our Solution 1 recommendation is to uninstall SpyWare Doctor 3.2.

SOLUTION 2

1. Open SpyWare Doctor by double-clicking on the SpyWare Doctor icon
2. Click on “OnGrard” button
3. Click on “Keyboard Guard” button
4. Click on “Add Application” button
5. Add the following files as needed:
C:\\Program Files\\ZoomText 8.0\\zt8.exe
C:\\Program Files\\ZoomText 8.1\\zt8.exe
C:\\Program Files\\ZoomText 9.0\\zt.exe

6. Click on the X at the top right corner of the SpyWare Doctor window
7. This closes the window without turning off your SpyWare Doctor protection
8. Now you can open ZoomText but the ZoomText hotkeys will not work in Internet Explorer

Regards,

If I may offer an additional suggestion, I highly recomend trying LavaSoft's AdAware:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

There's a free version that you can download. It's very good, regularly updated, and (so far as I know) there are no conflicts with ZoomText. :D

Ad-Aware is a great recommendation, its probably the easiest spyware removal tool to use, best part is that the free version is almost as good as the pay version. The paid version digs a little deeper, but the free version will get rid of most spyware on your machine.

I am using Spyware Doctor 3.3. I've never had a problem with
ZT 9 starting but the hotkeys don't work i.e. when you do AppReader keys in IE you get the Favourites/Add To Favourites menu. It may be of interest to know the SpyWare Doctor was A-Listed in PC PRO Labs test Issue 133. Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy both of which I used to use getting low mark. I think I will be uninstalling it and trying Sunbelt CounterSpy which got the PCPRO Recommended award.
If anybody know of poblems with this programs please let me know.

Hi Robert,

If you have not done so already; please report that Hotkey problem relating to Spyware Doctor in an e-mail to support@aisquared.com describing it just as you have done here. I'm sure they will be interested in working on fixing that issue.

Robert,

We've contacted the software manufacturers of Spyware Doctor on this issue. They reported that they did not have any plans to address this issue. Currently there is no known workaround.

Regards,

Robert,

I thought you'd like to know that I just downloaded and tried Webroot Spy Sweeper

http://www.webroot.com

and it seems to work fine with ZoomText. You might want to give it a try.
