I want to buy a new custom built computer.
I want to know what hardware work best with zoomtext and ork smoothly.
First the CPU. Is AMD better or Intel? (I personally like Intel P4 better specially with the new HT)
Video Card: Is ATI Radeon tested and working fine with zoomtext or is GeForce better?
(I currently have Radeon 9200 128mb but would like to upgrade to ATI Radeon X1900 512MB Crossfire edition) I just want to make sure it will work properly before paying hundreds of dollars for a video card...
Does also motherboard efect anything? I personally have a good experience with ASUS and a bad experience with MSI...
And the last thing is RAM. How much RAM is enough?
(I currently have 512MB but my computer usually freezes when I run alot of programs with zoomtext. I was thinking about 2GB of RAM for my upgrade.)
If anyone have any recommendations please let me know.
In general I'd make the following recommendations:
CPU: Intel or AMD - this shouldn't matter, although all of our testing has been done on Intel platforms.
RAM: If you're planning on running a lot of apps, I'd say go with 1 GB, 2GB would be a good idea especially if you are looking to make yourself future-proof for Vista - performance wise, I don't think you'll see a huge difference in ZT between 1 and 2 GB.
Video Card: Stick with ATi or Nvidia, i'd recommend against getting a Crossfire or SLI configuration (with two video cards), as at this time you won't be able to run ZoomText with 2 video drivers enabled and would not see a performance gain.
Motherboard: This is really negligible as far as ZT is concerned, but don't skimp on quality components. The motherboard is one of the most important components of a PC system and certainly has a part to play in system stability; ASUS and MSI are generally good manufacturers.
