Hello,

I work for the IT depatment of my company. One of our users uses ZoomText v8.11.3. If she has ZoomText open while she is using MS Access 2000 and then closes the Access it is not possible for her to open another database. We discovered that the process MSACCESS.exe was still running after Access is closed. If we end the process she can open another database with Access, but if she closes it the same problem comes. When ZoomText is closed this problem does not arise. We would like ZoomText and Access be open at the sametime. Can anyone offer any help to make this happen?

I had a similar problem with a specialized application. I did not try running it a second time. MS gave me an error when I closed the app. and wanted to send a error-report to MS. I got on-line and sent it to MS.
Do you have this reporting function turned ON?
You could also turn on DR. WATSON error logging.

I don't get a Dr. Watson message. Is there anything else I should try to get this fixed.

Could you please check to see whether Office has been updated to the latest SP, the link below to Microsoft's Website will run a check for you.

We have reproduced this issue in house. It appears that if you attempt to re open the same file by double clicking on the file or shortcut to it in a short matter of time, Access will not load.

The workaround here is to have the user open Access itself, then go to File > Open and browse to the file. Using this method you may temporarily have two instances of MSACCESS.exe running, however one should close by itself shortly after.

Thanks! It worked. :D

I was also able to take the workaround to the next level for the user by making a shortcut to Access and passing the database as the parameter.

So the target of the shortcut looks like this:
\"C:\\Path to Office\\MSACCESS.EXE\" NameOfDatabase.mdb
by default it looks in \"My Documents\" for the file.

This way if it is a database that gets open frequently the user can just make a shortcut like that and not have to go through the other long process.

Hopefully my finding will be helpfully to someone.

Thanks for the help again.

Has this been fixed in the new version ? This workaround is not really ideal as it leaves numerous versions of the msaccess.exe running. Could it please be investigated further? We are a large corporate user of this product.
