Look for a file called tts.ini. Its location is the following: C:\\Program Files\\ZoomText 9.1. Open the file in notepad. Look for something in that file that looks like what I have below:

[TextToSpeech]
EnableOnlyDefinedTTS=0

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Speech\\Voices\\Tokens\\VW Kate 16k]
comment=NeoSpeech Kate - AiSquared engine
VALID=1
FAMILY_GUID=4C46D835-4C95-4b15-9147-48939B6060D3
VOICE_GUID=A7D57D51-E96D-4a0b-97C6-BEC1544F5E8A
ENGINE_NAME=NeoSpeech English [Ai Squared (v2)]
ENGINE_NAME_LOW=NeoSpeech English [Ai Squared (v2)]
VOICE_NAME=Kate
DESCRIPTION=
PBR_RATE=35
PBR_PERIOD=100
PBR_STEP=0
COLUMNPAUSE

In the section that has the following: EnableOnlyDefinedTTS=0
change it to read this:

EnableOnlyDefinedTTS=1

Then save the changes and do a reboot and then see if that helps.

If it does not work you can try uninstalling the neospeech and then reinstalling it. You would put the CD in and forgo the auto play and open the CD via the my computer or computer on your desktop or start menu. You would browse to the ZtSetup\\Support\\Kate64M and/or ZtSetup\\Support\\Paul64M folder. Then you would double click on the setup. The type will be application. Double click to uninstall it. Do it for both Kate and Paul. Then double click on the file again to install the neospeech. Then reboot the computer.

Take care,

James

Thank you James I was searching for that file, and I see why I didn't find it! It seems like such a long file name I don't think I could follow your instructions. Even though I'm sure they would be acurate, but I'm just a operator a visually impaired one at that. So I would like to ask you regarding just reinstalling ZT9.1 again. There is another factor I just had a Windows update for Vista a service pak 1. Do you think that this would help my situation?
Thanks again James for your time.

Hello John,

You can try uninstalling ZoomText from the start menu, all programs, and the ZoomText folder and then reinstall it to see if that works. You should be fine with the Windows Service Pack 1 for Vista. Thanks.

Take care,

James

Hello,
I suggest, before reInstalling ZT, just reboot several times. I found using VISTA that when one program fails, VISTA looses other functions so other programs also fail. The next time I reboot some programs again fail or are run with odd settings and parameters. Usually things will eventually work back to normal after a few boots in the battery.
PLEASE report details of a repeating problem to A.I.Squared Customer Support. If they see a pattern maybe they can fix it!
Jim H.

Well now this has happened at work where WindowsNT and Windows 98 O.S are used so now I'm wondering if Vista is not all to blame. So the common thread to my problems here at home and work are ZT9.1
And I'm sorry I don't have the gumption or time to follow a cut and paste answer from the last advice given. Now i don't want to sound ungrateful but a lot of money was spent on this software \"ZT9.1\" So I have decided to settle for Mary in Microsoft truevoice and wait for other users to have this problem and AI Squared sends a repair patch with the program updates. I'm not sure if this could be done after all I'm only a Rookie ZT user of what 18 years :o :cry: :P

Hello John,

What version of ZoomText is this? From what I was told ZoomText 9.1 is not compatible in Windows NT and Windows 98. It is only suppose to be compatible in Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. Thanks.

Take care,

James
