iTunes 7

Postby Aeneas » Tue Sep 19, 2006 5:15 pm

Hello,

Has anybody been using the new iTunes (version 7) in combination with ZoomText? I have experienced major performance issues with this combination. iTunes slows the whole system down. Using iTunes and also performing standard tasks in other programs whilst iTunes is running is extremely slow. As soon as ZoomText is disabled everything speeds up like a rocket. I really like the new iTunes so this incompatibility is a major disappointment. Any ideas what might be causing this issue and how to solve it?

Hi Aeneas,

I haven't tried running the lastest version of Itunes with ZoomText, I have read a lot about issues in general with version 7.

The performance problem might be due to xFont, so you may want to try turning it off in ITunes:

1. Start ZoomText
2. Start Itunes
3. Click on the Font icon in ZoomText
4. Click Settings
5. Click on the Exclude application button
6. Check the box for the Itunes executable name
7. Click Ok
8. Click Ok
9. See if the same problem occurs

ZoomText 9.14 and iTunes

Postby lironl » Fri Aug 01, 2008 5:01 am

I'm also experiencing the same problem. The problem is that ZoomText takes up a lot of processor time when iTunes is runing, playing music, and not minised, rising from the low to mid teens to the high 20's and low 30's on my computer when hyperthreading is activated. Without hyperthreading, the processor usage peaks in the 40's, sometimes higher. The only thing I'm doing while this is happening is viewing the task manager.

Other than the above, scrolling of the screen is very jerky and overall performance slows down. When Hyperthreading is disabled, iTunes also slows down and the track stutters every time that ZoomText's processor usage peaks.

ZoomText's processor usage peaks in the 30's or 40's every 10 seconds, which corresponds with every time the album title/artislt name text scrolls up, so surely this is causing the peaks. I don't know what's causing the general slowdown, but the elapsed time and remaining time changing every second, along with the ever-advancing progress indicator, must be contributing their part.

When iTunes is minimised, performance improves dramatically, and ZoomText's processor usage falls into the single figures to low teens.

I'm using an Intle Pentium 4 at 3 GHz, with 1 GB RAM.

Hello,

I'm not sure if this will help but we have people try this when they are experiencing performance issues with ZoomText. Thanks.

Take care,

James
