Title Excerpt
ZoomText setup will fail on systems with multiple monitors or multi-display video cards

When trying to install ZoomText on a system configured for multiple display devices (also referred to as "dual monitors"), the following problem may occur:

  • Setup will display a message window, alerting the user to the problem, requiring to disable the secondary display before proceeding with the setup.
  • Setup will exit.

Installing ZoomText 8.0 and 8.1 on the same system

ZoomText 8.0x and 8.1x can both be installed on the same system - although you can only run one at a time. However, if ZoomText 8.0 is subsequently removed from the system, you may encounter the following behavior:

Running ZoomText Xtra (v7) and JAWS in Windows XP, 2000 or NT 4.0

ZoomText Xtra (v7) and JAWS can co-exist in Windows XP, 2000 and NT 4.0; as long as ZoomText is installed first. In Windows XP you must be running ZoomText 7.11 or later. In Windows 2000 and NT 4.0 you must be running ZoomText 7.10 or later.

Installation Hangs for ZoomText 7

ZoomText installation hangs/freezes or does not complete installation successfully.

System hangs when selecting ScanSoft Steffi speech synthesizer

When the demo version of the ScanSoft Steffi speech synthesizer is selected in ZoomText 9.0, ZoomText crashes causing the system to hang.

ZoomText crashes and reboots on multi-monitor systems

After installing ZoomText on a system configured for multiple display devices (also referred to as Dual Monitors), the following problems may occur:

  • When you attempt to start the system, before the Windows desktop appears the system reboots (in a continuous loop).
  • When you attempt to start ZoomText, the system crashes.
  • When you open the Display Properties dialog and select the Settings tab, the system crashes.

System crash when exiting JAWS 5.0 while ZoomText 8 is running

When running ZoomText 8 with JAWS 5.0 (build 812), if you exit JAWS before ZoomText the system will crash, resulting in a blue screen error or instant reboot.

Continuous reboot or BSOD after installing ZoomText or BigShot

On systems containing Intel 82845/65G graphics adapters, after installing ZoomText or BigShot the system may crash on startup, resulting in a perpetual reboot or blue screen critical error window (a.k.a. “blue screen of death” or BSOD).

Pointer corruption when switching display color depth

When colored pointers are used without shadows and the color depth is changed, pointer corruption is evident when ZoomText is started.

Screen corruption when Windows XP’s ClearType effect is enabled

In Windows XP, when the ClearType display effect is enabled, screen corruption occurs when using ZoomText's fractional magnification levels (1.25x, 1.5x or 1.75x).

Screen corruption when running ZoomText 8 with TurboTax 2003

When running ZoomText 8.0x or 8.1 with TurboTax 2003, the following screen corruption problems may occur:

System lockup occurs when ViaVoice reads “.-” characters

When using ZoomText Magnifier/ScreenReader with the ViaVoice speech synthesizer, if a period followed by a dash is sent to ViaVoice (such as instances used in references to Swiss currency reference, e.g. "Fr. 1,950.-"), the system may lockup, requiring a power off reboot.  This problem occurs because ViaVoice does not know how to process occurrences of a period followed by a dash.

Errors when accessing Microsoft Excel 97 dialogs

When BigShot is running, errors may occur when accessing certain Microsoft Excel 97 dialogs. These errors are caused by known problems in Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA), which is utilized by BigShot to monitor and track on-screen events.
