KB: Video Corruption when running ZoomText in Office XP

KB#: 028
Last updated: March 01 2006

The information in this article applies to:

  • ZoomText 8.0
  • ZoomText Xtra (version 7)

PROBLEM

When running ZoomText with Microsoft Office XP applications - including Word 2002, Excel 2002 and PowerPoint 2002 - ZoomText's magnified view may become corrupted. For example, unmagnified objects (pictures and graphics) may appear in front of ZoomText magnified view. As you move the mouse over these objects, they are erased.

CAUSE

Office XP makes extensive use of a new Microsoft technology, called GDI+. GDI+ gives application programs the ability to perform graphical output directly to the screen, bypassing the normal video processing used by screen magnifiers.

SOLUTION

This problem is resolved by installing Office XP Service Packs 1 and 2 (SP1 and SP2).

To obtain the Office XP service packs:
The Office XP service packs are available for downloaded from Microsoft's website:

If you are running ZoomText Xtra (version 7)
