KB#: 049
Last updated: March 01 2006

The information in this article applies to:

  • BigShot 2.xx

BigShot can be configured to run automatically each time the system starts up, adding to BigShot's convenience and ease of use. However, there may be times when disabling this feature becomes necessary to resolve or troubleshoot a conflict between BigShot and other system components. Should this occur, there are two methods available for disabling the 'run automatic' feature:

Method 1: Disable "run automatically" in the BigShot Options tab:

  1. Open the BigShot Settings dialog and select the Options tab.
  2. Uncheck the "Run BigShot automatically when system starts" checkbox.
  3. Click OK or Apply.

Method 2: Disable "run automatically" by editing the Registry:

If problem occurs where you are unable to access the Settings dialog (i.e. BigShot crashes on startup), you can disable the 'run automatic' feature via the Windows Registry, as follows:

  1. In the Windows Start menu, select Run.
  2. In the Run dialog, type Regedit, then click OK.
  3. In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key (folder):

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

  4. Delete the key named 'BigShot'.
  5. Exit the Windows Registry application.
  6. Restart the system.

Note: If the system crashes or you are unable to access the Start menu, restart the system in Safe Mode and repeat steps 1 through 6 above.

To start Windows in Safe Mode

When you boot up your system you will see text that reads "Starting Windows". Immediately after this message appears, press the F8 key. This will display the Windows Start Menu (in a DOS screen). Select option 3 to start Windows in Safe Mode.
