KB: Screen corruption when running WinDVD 5 with ZoomText installed

The information in this article applies to:

  • ZoomText 8.00 through 8.02


PROBLEM

If ZoomText is installed on the system, when launching WinDVD 5 the screen colors may become corrupted and DVD video may not appear (even if ZoomText is not running).

SOLUTION

This problem was fixed in ZoomText 8.03. Users of ZoomText 8.00 through 8.02 can obtain this fix by downloading and installing the ZoomText 8.04 update - avialable on the 'Updates' page of this website.

WORKAROUND

Users of ZoomText 8.00 through 8.02 can work around this problem by configuring WinDVD 5 to use standard video technology.

To configure WinDVD 5 to use standard video technology

  1. Right-click on the WinDVD user interface. From the context menu, select 'Setup'. This opens the Setup dialog box.
  2. Click on the 'Video' tab.
  3. Click on the "Use Hardware Decoder Acceleration" checkbox to enable this setting (i.e. make sure the setting is checked).
  4. Click the OK button. The WinDVD display should now appear correctly.
