KB: ZoomText causes a black band across Word XP documents that have a watermark

PROBLEM
In Microsoft Word XP (aka Word 2002), when viewing a document that contains a watermark image, a black band may appear on the page, obscuring the watermark and other document objects. This problem is known to occur when ZoomText is installed on the system, and can occur with or without ZoomText running.
CAUSE
The specific cause of this problem is currently unknown.
SOLUTION
This problem is resolved by installing Office XP Service Packs 1 and 2 (SP1 and SP2) and the latest Office XP updates (released after SP2).
To obtain the Microsoft Office XP service packs and updates:
- Go to the Office Update website at http://office.microsoft.com/OfficeUpdate/default.aspx.
- Under the section titled 'Office Update', select 'Check for Updates'. This will prompt you to install and/or launch the Office Update Initialization Engine, which will determine which service packs and updates you need to install.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of the Office XP service packs and updates.
