KB: Unable to print from HP 700 series printer if ZoomText is running

  • ZoomText 9.0
  • ZoomText 8.1 and 8.0


PROBLEM

On Windows 98 and ME systems, attempts to print to an HP 700 series printer may fail or cause the system to lockup if ZoomText is running. Note: This problem has only been reported by a few ZoomText users and is not believed to occur with all HP 700 series printers.

CAUSE

The specific cause of this problem is currently unknown.

WORKAROUNDS

There are two known workarounds for this problem.

Workaround 1: Disable ZoomText just before you print, then re-enable ZoomText when the print job is finished.

  1. Press ALT + DEL to disable ZoomText.
  2. Print.
  3. Press ALT + INS to enable ZoomText.

Workaround 2: Disable MSAA just before you print, then re-enable ZoomText when the print job is finished.

  1. Press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + M to disable MSAA.
  2. Print.
  3. Press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + M to re-enable MSAA. Note: If you forget to turn MSAA back on, you'll lose tracking of menus.
