PROBLEM
In Windows XP, when the ClearType display effect is enabled, screen corruption occurs when using ZoomText's fractional magnification levels (1.25x, 1.5x or 1.75x).
Note: This problem is only known to occur on systems containing the Intel 82852 on-board video controller.
SOLUTION
If you running ZoomText 8.1, this problem is resolved by installing the 8.10.1 update. If you are connected to the Internet, you can obtain the update by selecting Start > Programs > ZoomText 8.1 > Check for Updates. Note: The update is also available for manual download on the Ai Squared Updates web page.
If you running ZoomText 8.0x, this problem is resolved by running the latest version of the ZoomText Driver Install Utility.
- Download the ZoomText Driver Install Utility from http://www.zoomtext.com/software/techsupport/Ai2DrvInst/Latest81Release/Zt8DrvInstUtil.exe. Once the download is complete, double-click on the downloaded file: Zt8DrvInstUtil.exe.
- When the ZoomText 8 XP and 2K Driver Setup box appears, click the Install button.
- When the second ZoomText 8 XP and 2K Driver Setup box appears, click the OK button. Note this box says 'Success' in the corner.
- When asked if you'd like to reboot your computer, click the Yes button.
- After rebooting your system, the screen corruption should no longer occur.
WORKAROUND
You can also workaround this problem by disabling the ClearType display effect.
- In the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, select Display.
- In the Display Properties dialog box, select the Appearance tab, then select Effects.
- In the Effects dialog, beneath the checkbox labeled 'Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:', change the combo box setting from 'ClearType' to 'Standard'.
