KB: Resolving errors that occur when attempting to activate ZoomText

The information in this article applies to:

  • ZoomText v8.01 through 8.1x - International, single-user versions


On some systems, when attempting to activate ZoomText 8 (online or manually); one of the following errors may occur:

Error 1:  "This copy of ZoomText has already been activated on another system"

This error indicates that your allotment of product activation keys has been used up. To receive more activation keys, contact Ai Squared technical support at (802) 362-3612 – option 3, or support@aisquared.com .

Error 2:  "Invalid activation key"

This error indicates that you have entered an invalid activation key (during a manual activation). Make sure that you have correctly entered (typed) the key, then try activating again.

This error may also indicate that the activation process has failed. In this case, if you are running ZoomText 8.10 or later, complete the following procedure – "Resetting product activation in ZoomText 8.1". If you are running ZoomText 8.0x, contact Ai Squared technical support for assistance at (802) 362-3612 - option 3, or support@aisquared.com .

Resetting product activation in ZoomText 8.1

Step 1— Update to the latest version of ZoomText 8.1

  1. Exit ZoomText.
  2. In the Windows Start menu, select Programs > ZoomText 8.1 > Check for Updates. This will launch the ZoomText Update Wizard, which will check for and download available updates.

    Note: If you do not have access to the Internet, contact your dealer to request the latest version of ZoomText 8.1 on CD.).

Step 2 — Cleanup previous activation attempt

  1. Restart ZoomText.
  2. On the ZoomText menu, choose Help > About ZoomText > Support (tab).
  3. In the blank box under Fix-It Commands, type: REMACT
  4. Click the Fix It button. A small dialog will appear stating: "Remove activation successful". Click OK to close this dialog.
  5. Click Close to exit the About ZoomText dialog.
  6. Exit ZoomText.

Step 3 — Activate ZoomText

  1. Restart ZoomText.
  2. On the ZoomText menu, choose Help > About ZoomText > Activate (tab).
  3. Select and complete the desired method of activation.
  4. If activation was not successful, email the following information to support@aisquared.com :

- Your contact information
- Your ZoomText serial number
- Any relevant observations about the problem
- The ZXPLOG.TXT file - located in the ZoomText program directory — C:\Program Files\ZoomText 8.1
