KB: How to perform a silent installation of ZoomText

The information in this article applies to:

• ZoomText 9.1 and 9.0
• ZoomText 8.1 and 8.0

PROBLEM

To accelerate the task of performing multiple installations of ZoomText, the ZoomText Setup program can be executed with command line parameters, resulting in a ‘silent installation' that completes automatically.

To perform a silent installation of ZoomText

1. While holding down the Shift key, insert the ZoomText CD in the CD-ROM drive.
   
   Note: Holding down the Shift will keep the ZoomText Setup program from auto-starting.
2. In the Windows Start menu, select Run…
3. In the ‘Open:' text box, type: D:\SETUP /?
   
   Note: If ‘D' is the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive, substitute the appropriate drive letter.
4. Click the OK button.
   
   A list of ZoomText Setup command line parameters will appear. These parameters allow you to specify installation options that you would normally select in the Setup dialogs.
5. Select the ZoomText Setup parameters that you wish to use.
6. Reopen the Windows Run… dialog and type the following in the ‘Open:' text box. D:\SETUP /NI /asn:{serial number w/o dashes} {optional parameters}
   
   Note: Each parameter must be separated by a space.
7. Click the OK button.
   
   The ZoomText Setup program will execute and complete the installation without further user interaction.

NOTE: License activation will still require user initiation.
