KB: Adobe Reader 7.0 freezes when scrolling document

KB#: 118
Last updated: February 27 2006

The information in this article applies to:

  • ZoomText 9.0
  • ZoomText 8.1x
  • Adobe Reader 7.0

PROBLEM

When running ZoomText, if you open a multi-page PDF document in Adobe Reader 7.0 and resize the document to 100 percent, when attempting to scroll through the document, Adobe Reader may appear to freeze up. This freeze is only temporary and generally clears itself in 10 to 15 seconds.

SOLUTION

To resolve this problem, do one of the following:

  1. Open Adobe Reader 7.0.
  2. Click on Edit > Preferences.
  3. Click on "Reading" in the left pane under "Categories".
  4. On the right pane under "Screen Reader Options" click on the combo box labeled "Page Vs Document".
  5. Click "OK" on the Preferences dialog box.
  6. Close Adobe Reader and start it again.

--OR --

When an untagged document is opened, the "Reading Untagged Document" dialog box will appear. Select the "Read the currently visible pages only" option on that dialog box.
