KB: ZoomText will not launch when SpyWare Doctor 3.2 is running and the “OnGuard Protection”

The information in this article applies to:

• ZoomText v8.xx
• ZoomText v9.xx

PROBLEMS

When launching ZoomText, you may get one of the following:

• Nothing happens or hourglass comes on and off for many seconds
• The ZoomText user interface and splash screen pop up for a second, unmagnified
• Error “An unknown error has occurred while launching ZoomText 9.0. Please restart your system and then try launching ZoomTexxt again”

SOLUTION

Uninstall SpyWare Doctor. If uninstalling SpyWare Doctor is not preferred, please follow the steps below for a partial workaround

WORKAROUND

1. Open SpyWare Doctor by double-clicking on the SpyWare Doctor icon.
2. Click on OnGuard button.
3. Click on Keyboard Guard button.
4. Click on Add Application button.
5. Add the following file(s) according to the version of ZoomText you are using:
   ZoomText 8.0x users: C:\Program Files\ZoomText 8.0\zt8.exe
   ZoomText 8.1x users: C:\Program Files\ZoomText 8.1\zt8.exe
6. Click on the X at the top right corner of the SpyWare Doctor window. This closes the window without turning off your SpyWare Doctor protection.
7. Now you can open ZoomText, however the ZoomText hotkeys will not work in Internet Explorer.
