KB: “Unicode Wrapper Error” when launching ZoomText 8.x

The information in this article applies to:
- ZoomText 8.1x and earlier
- ZoomText 9.xx
PROBLEM
This problem occurs on a Windows 98/ME system with both ZoomText and Dolphin SuperNova 6.5 installed. The error occurs on ZoomText startup, when it tries to initialize the Dolphin speech engine. Windows 9x and ME do not provide the proper Unicode support for Dolphin’s speech synthesizer.
SOLUTION
Downloading and installing the "Microsoft Layer for Unicode on Windows 95, 98, and Me systems (MSLU)" from Microsoft web site will fix this problem:
- Download Unicows.exe from Microsoft’s website, by clicking on the download button on http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=73BA7BD7-ED06-4F0D-80A4-2A7EEAEE17E2&displaylang=en.
- Extract the file to the C:\Windows\System32 directory.
- Run ZoomText, you should no longer receive the error.
