KB: Installation Hangs for ZoomText 7

The information in this article applies to:
PROBLEM
ZoomText installation hangs/freezes or does not complete installation successfully.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Selective Startup:
- Click on the Start button
- Select Run...
- Type the command below in the blank area next to Open:
"msconfig"
- Click the OK button
- This will bring you to the System Configuration Utility in the General tab
- Click the radial next to Selective Startup
- Uncheck Load Startup Items
- Click the OK button
- Click the Restart button
- When the computer restarts a message box will appear stating that you have used the System Configuration Utility
- Check the box labeled "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration utility when Windows start"
- Click the OK button
- Install ZoomText
- You can choose to go back to MSCONFIG and click on Normal startup to enable the startup items if needed.
Disk Cleanup:
- Double-click on My Computer
- Right click on your primary Hard Drive (usually Local Disk C:\)
- Left click on Properties
- Click on the Disk Cleanup button
- Check any unneeded items on the list – such as temporary internet files, temporary files and items in the recycle bin
- Click Ok
- Reboot the PC
- Install ZoomText
Disable AntiVirus:
Some anti-virus software (such as Norton
Corporate) can interfere with the installation process. To disable,
right-click on the system tray icon (next to the clock in the lower
right hand corner) for your anti-virus software
- Left click on Disable
- Install ZoomText
L&H Realspeak was installed prior to ZoomText:
Remove L&H RealSpeak from the registry(note
you may need to reinstall the application that first installed L&H
since after doing this the synthesizer will not be available):
- Click the Start button.
- Choose Run.
- Into the Open box, type
"regedit"
- Click the OK button.
- Double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
- Double click Software.
- Double click Voice.
- Double click TextToSpeech.
- Click Engine.
- With the word Engine highlighted, look at the right-hand section of the Window.
- There are two columns of information. The left-hand column is titled Name.
- Right click on L&H Realspeak.
- Left click on Delete.
- Click Yes.
- Install ZoomText.
