The information in this article applies to:
On systems containing ZoomText 9.0, JAWS 7.0 or 7.1, and AVG Anti-Virus software, if ZoomText is running and you click the "Virus Vault" button on the AVG program interface, the PC will crash and display a blue screen.
Note: This problem is related to the presence of JAWS 7.0 or 7.1 on the system.
There are two workarounds for this problem. Only one of these workarounds must be used to resolve the problem. Workaround 1 disables ZoomText's support for text rendered with gray-scale text smoothing, which is a contributor to this problem. Using this method may result in a loss of text clarity in some applications. Workaround 2 removes the JAWS display driver from the Windows display driver chain, effectively disabling JAWS, which is also a contributor to this problem.
Workaround 1 – Disable ZoomText's support for gray-scale text smoothing
The ZoomText 9.0 Properties dialog will appear.
The Windows Explorer will open to the ZoomText program folder.
The TestSupp.ini file will open in the Windows Notepad text editor.
EatGrayScaledTextOuts=0
Changes to the TestSupp.ini file are saved.
Note: When using this workaround, some on-screen text may be slightly degraded.
Workaround 2 – Remove the JAWS display driver from the driver chain
The Windows Explorer will open to the ZoomText program folder.
The Display Chaining Manager will open.
The JAWS driver will now appear in the Installed But Disabled window.
