The information in this article applies to:
- ZoomText versions 9.01 and later
Introduction
This article provides information and instructions for updating the installed version for a ZoomText 9.0 Network License, including the ZoomText network server and network clients. The requirements and steps for updating a ZoomText network license vary depending on the starting and ending versions in the update process, so please read this article completely before executing this process.
Overview of Update Process
To fully update a ZoomText 9.0 network license you must first update the ZoomText network server, and then update each of the ZoomText network clients. Updating each network client may or may not be immediately required depending on the version of the network client that is currently installed. To determine whether or not you will need to update your network clients immediately, see “To update the ZoomText network client” below.
Before you begin the update process, you will need the following information about your existing ZoomText 9.0 network installation:
- Your ZoomText network license serial number
- The computer that hosts the existing network server
- The share name for the folder containing the network server. This is the folder that contains \Zt9ClientSetup
To update the ZoomText network license server
- Insert the new ZoomText 9.0 Network License CD into the CD-ROM drive.
The ZoomText Server Setup program will start automatically. If the Setup program does not start automatically;
- Click on the Windows Start button and select Run.
- Browse to your CD-ROM drive.
- Select the Setup.exe program and click Open.
- Click OK in the Run dialog box.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. You will be prompted to enter the following information:
- The ZoomText network license serial number.
- The share name for the folder that contains the existing ZoomText network server (in UNC format or as a mapped drive).
After you enter the share name, a dialog will appear informing you that the folder is not empty and that the contents will be overwritten. Overwriting the contents is intended, so it is ok to continue.
- If ZoomText's roaming configurations were enabled in your existing network installation, you will need to re-enable support for roaming configurations according to the instructions in the ZoomText 9.0 Network Installation Guide ("see "Roaming Configurations").
To update the ZoomText network client for each computer
- After updating the ZoomText network server, when you launch each ZoomText network client you will be prompted to update the client installation.
If the existing client installation is version 9.02 or earlier; you must update to the newer version on the network server. Otherwise, the client license will begin running in Disconnect Mode for a maximum of 5 days or 15 executions, whichever comes first. When the disconnect period has expired, you must update the client installation in order to use ZoomText again.
If the existing client installation is version 9.03 or later; you must update to the version on the server if the first 2 digits in the product serial number have changed. If the first 2 digits in the serial number have not changed, you can choose to update to the newer version on the network server or continue running the older version on the network client. The client license will remain valid.
- Click the Install button to launch the ZoomText Setup program (to update the client installation, or select Continue to run the existing client installation.
