The latest update release of ZoomText, version 9.04, introduces support for USB-based CCTV devices, also referred to as portable video magnifiers. With this support, ZoomText can now be used with a variety of video magnifiers, allowing for simultaneous magnified viewing of your Windows applications and printed material. In addition, you can switch between full screen views from ZoomText and your CCTV device, or choose a split-screen where ZoomText's magnified view appears in one half of the screen while your camera’s view appears in the other.

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about ZoomText support for USB-based CCTVs.

Which USB CCTVs does ZoomText support?

As of this writing, Clarity Solutions, Low Vision International and Optelec all have a line of USB video magnifiers that are ZoomText ready. Ash Technologies, Optron and SynSupport will also be adding support in the near future. If you own a portable video magnifier from one of these manufacturers, or are interested in purchasing one, contact them for the latest status, updates and instructions that are needed to start using your video magnifier with ZoomText 9.0.

Does Ai Squared sell CCTVs?

Ai Squared does not currently sell any CCTV devices. CCTVs may be purchased from many of Ai Squared dealers, or you can contact the following CCTV manufactures directly:

Does Ai Squared recommend a certain CCTV vendor?

All of the CCTV vendors listed have capable and affordable product solutions; we do not have one product we can recommend over another. We advise consulting your local dealer and/or the manufacturers for specific features and pricing.

Do I have to adjust any ZoomText settings to make it work with my USB CCTV?

No. In fact, there are no settings in ZoomText related to your CCTV. you simply need to be running ZoomText version 9.04 or later. If you are running ZoomText 9.00 through 9.03, you can download and install the ZoomText 9.04 update using one of the following methods:

  • Automatic Updating. With ZoomText’s auto-update feature enabled (in the program Preferences dialog), ZoomText will automatically detect, download and install the 9.04 update. Note: You must be connected to the Internet when starting ZoomText.
  • Check for Updates. Launches the ZoomText update wizard, which acquires available updates via the Internet. In the Windows Start menu, select Programs > ZoomText 9.0 > Check for Updates.
  • Order the 9.04 CD. Give us a call at (800) 859 0270 and we’ll ship you a new CD for just $10 (US) - shipping included.
  • Manual download and install. You can manually download the 9.04 update from Ai Squared’s web site: http://www.aisquared.com/support/Updates.cfm. When the download is complete, double-click on the file to begin the installation.
