KB: Poor text quality in PowerPoint 2002, 2003, and 2007

KB#: 184
Last updated: October 16 2008

The information in this article applies to:

  • ZoomText version 9.0 and 9.1
  • PowerPoint 2002, 2003, and 2007

PROBLEM

When using ZoomText 9.0 or 9.1 with Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, 2003, and 2007, you may experience poor text quality in your presentation.

SOLUTION

One workaround to this problem is to exclude ZoomText's use of xFont in the PowerPoint application: from the ZoomText toolbar, select Magnifier > Font Enhancements > Settings… > Exclude Applications. However, the preferred solution is as follows:

In PowerPoint 2007, do the following:

  1. Open a PowerPoint presentation.
  2. Enable ZoomText and set the magnification level higher than 1X.

Notice the xFont corruption.

  1. On the ribbon bar, click on the View tab.
  2. Click on the Zoom icon.
  3. Set the Zoom level to 100% and click OK.

xFont will now work properly.

In PowerPoint 2002 or 2003, do the following:

  1. Open a PowerPoint presentation.
  2. Enable ZoomText and set the magnification level higher than 1X.

Notice the xFont corruption.

  1. On the PowerPoint toolbar, set the zooming option to 100%.

xFont will now work properly.
