KB: Turning Off Automatic Updates for Internet Explorer 9 Update

The information in this article applies to:

If you had Internet Explorer 9 installed on your PC and you went through the process of uninstalling it, here you'll find a set of instructions on how to turn off the Windows Automatic Updates so that Internet Explorer 9 is not automatically installed on your PC again.

*If you have not uninstalled Internet Explorer 9, please reference KB Article #870 for steps on how to do so.

Here are the instructions if you're running Windows 7:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Click on Control Panel.
3. If you are in the Category view in Control Panel, click on System and Security. * If you are in the Large icons or Small icons view skip to the next step.
4. Then click on Windows Update.
5. Click Change settings in the left pane.
6. Under Important updates, click the drop down menu box. *It should say Install updates automatically (recommended).
7. Select and click on Download but let me choose which updates to install.
8. Click on the OK button. Then exit out of Control Panel.

Here are the instructions if you're running Windows Vista:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Click on Control Panel.
3. In the left pane there is an option for Control Panel Home view or Classic view.
4. Make sure the one for Classic view has been selected.
5. Then click on Windows Update.
6. Click Change settings in the left pane.
7. Under Important updates, click the drop down menu box. *It should say Install updates automatically (recommended).
8. Select and click on Download but let me choose which updates to install.
9. Click on the OK button. Then exit out of Control Panel.
