ZoomText Express Version 1.03

Released May, 2010 for Windows 7, Vista and XP

ZoomText Express now fully supports Windows 7
With this release ZoomText Express now fully supports Windows 7. All known installation, update and compatibility issues have been resolved.

Fix for erroneous prompt to restart in Windows Vista
On certain Windows Vista configurations (with Aero Glass enabled), ZoomText Express would prompt to restart the system after updating the DCM chain. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for startup problems on HP touch screen laptops
On HP touch screen laptops, ZoomText Express would fail to start and display message instructing the user to restart their system. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for corrupted characters in Turkish Help
In the Turkish localization of ZoomText Express, corrupted font characters existed in the Help file. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for installation failures on Chinese Windows XP
ZoomText Express would not install on systems running Chinese Windows XP. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for failure to install from copied Setup image
If the CD image were copied to a folder with spaces in the name, the installation would fail. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for ZoomText Express freezing or hanging on startup
With certain systems, ZoomText Express would freeze or hang (usually at the splash screen) when attempting to launch the program. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for degrading performance and system freeze
On certain systems, after running ZoomText Express for a while the system would slow down and/or freeze up. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for C++ runtime error after Guest login in Windows XP
In Windows XP and when logged in as a Guest, a C++ runtime library error would occur when starting ZoomText Express. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for screen freeze on single processor systems
On some single processor systems ZoomText Express would occasionally freeze. The system would have to be restarted to clear the problem. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for loss of tracking in Firefox
In the Firefox web browser, ZoomText Express would fail to track when tabbing between links and other page elements. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for errors when running Windows with 150% DPI setting
When the Windows font scaling setting was set to 150% (DPI), any one of the following errors could occur when starting ZoomText Express:

• DLL load failure
• Stopped responding error
• An error has occurred in Visual C++
• ZoomText Express hangs at the splash screen
• Screen remains dim when starting ZoomText Express in Windows 7 (if ZoomText is configured to auto-start)

Fix for ZoomText Express’ driver self-recovery in Windows Vista 64-bit
In Windows Vista 64-bit, ZoomText Express’ self-recovery of an incomplete driver installation was not working properly. This problem has been fixed.

Fix for BSOD when launching ZoomText Express after Window Eyes
When Window Eyes was running and ZoomText Express subsequently launched a crash and blue screen (BSOD) would occur. This problem has been fixed.

Support for screen magnifier/ screen reader compatibility protocol
ZoomText Express now provides support for a new compatibility protocol (for Windows 7 and Windows Vista) that allows screen magnifiers and screen readers to start in any order without crashes or conflicts.  At the time of this release the latest versions of ZoomText Express and Window Eyes (from GW Micro) provide support for this protocol.

System Requirements

The following hardware and software is required to run ZoomText Express 1.0:

• 1 GHz Pentium® 4 processor or equivalent(1.5 GHz for Windows Vista)
• One of the following operating systems:
• Windows Vista
• Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2)
• Minimum 512 MB RAM required for Windows XP (1 GB recommended)
• Minimum 1 GB required for Windows Vista (2 GB recommended)
• 50 MB free space on hard drive

Compatibility with Other Accessibility Programs

Most accessibility programs install a chaining display driver that is always active, whether or not the accessibility program is currently running. When two or more accessibility products are installed on the same machine, there is the potential for compatibility problems with the accessibility programs. It is also possible that installing multiple accessibility programs may cause a crash when the system boots.

Newer versions of accessibility programs, including ZoomText Express, utilize DCM (Driver Chain Manager) to improve compatibility with other DCM compliant accessibility programs. If you are running other accessibility programs on your system, check with the manufactures of each program for compatibility information and upgrades recommended for improved compatibility with other accessibility programs.
